We are so excited to share that Rumar Farm will be featured in a LCBO ad that will be running in the fall. Here is a picture of Marc with one of the production crew. It was an exciting day for us and really interesting how much work goes on behind the scenes to create a professional ad. A big thank you to Mark Burstyn, Trisha, Jason and all the others that made this happen.
As we are now in the thick of summer vacations and some of you may not be able to pick up your baskets if you are away. Not to worry, you can either let us know of a substitute that will pick up your basket or we will be happy to donate your share to Pelham Cares. Either way its a win/win, but please give us a heads up.
Here is what you can expect this week:
Peaches Sun ripened, hand picked. Experience what a biodynamic peach tastes like. Be aware that unlike conventional farms that apply a finishing spray so they hold longer, ours will need to be eaten or used right away. They don’t keep very long so enjoy them soon!
Beets Root vegetable that is all the rage these days. If you don’t love beets, try roasting them and that may change your mind. To store beets, cut off the greens (leave an inch) wrap lightly in a paper towel and store in a plastic zip-top bag. Will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. The greens can be added to your salad or smoothie.
Cucumbers Make a nice cucumber salad, thinly sliced. Either a creamy kind with sour cream and red onions or one with vinegar and lime dressing. Either is delicious.
New White Potatoes Freshly harvested, thin skins and white flesh. They have a low sugar and medium starch content and their creamy dense texture is subtly sweet. Endless possibilities.
Zucchini Summers most popular squash with so many ways to prepare. It’s mild taste and creamy texture make it incredibly versatile.
Hearty Salad Mix A nice mix of lettuces and mustards.
Herb Parsley is often used for garnish, but it can also enhance flavour and benefit the health. Native to the Mediterranean, it contains a concentrated source of nutrients. Store at room temperature in water, can be frozen or dried to enjoy later.
