Find the Sun
Pay attention to where the sun tends to shine the most and least during the day in your yard or balcony. Different plants need different amounts of sun to survive. Tomatoes and peppers need lots of sun while lettuces and greens do better with some shade.

A flourishing garden needs great soil. The best soil for most plants to ensure optimum growth is a rich, sandy loam. Depending on your own soil, you may need to amend it with compost. Another option is to build raised beds and fill it with 50/50 ratio of compost and topsoil.
