I hope everyone was able to enjoy their dad yesterday in thoughts, virtually or in person. And perhaps got a chance to grill some garlic scapes from last weeks basket? If you didn’t don’t worry, based on a lot of feedback, we added them into this weeks basket again so you can try other ways to prepare them! Here is what you can expect this week:
Lettuce Mix They just get better and better. We have now moved from harvesting the hoop house to outside in Garden B and you may notice the difference in taste. Get ready for a very lovely mix of tender lettuces, some of our favourite varieties will end up in your fridge soon.
Garlic Scapes I keep talking about grilling them, but another member pickled hers. We have done a few batches in the past and really love having them on our epic charcuterie board during the holiday season. If you want to order extra if you are feeling ambitious visit our on-line store. We will add it to your CSA basket.
Snow Peas Edible flat pods with a mild, fresh flavour, snow peas can be eaten raw as a snack or added to a stir fry. We like to melt butter over medium heat, stir in garlic about 30 seconds then add the peas. Cook until bright green (about 2 minutes) then drizzle with olive oil and lemon juice. FAST FOOD.
Strawberries It’s that time of year that everyone looks forward to juicy, sun ripened strawberries. To keep them fresh, sort and then store them unwashed with their stems on in a shallow loosely covered container in your fridge. Remove the stems after washing them to avoid diluting the flavour.
Rhubarb We added rhubarb again because they are such a nice match to strawberries. We are bring two of spring’s best ingredients together for a winning combination. Not just for pies…..but chutney, punch, crumble. muffins, cobbler, and jam. The ideas are endless.
Komatsuna Large leafy spinach like green with a fresh sweet taste and crunchy texture. From Japan, it can be stir fried, steamed or pickled. Very popular in soups as it stays firm after being simmered. We just like to chop it up and add it to our scrambled eggs or saute with bacon and garlic for a great side dish.
Wild Flower and Wheat Bouquet Our guest florist Bo will be back again this week to put a lovely little bouquet together for your table. We have some nice blossoms filling out our large wild flower strip which runs down the middle of our garden. Hope you enjoy!
Just a reminder that if you are unable to pick up your share any week let us know (email rumarfarm@gmail.com or text Marc). Don’t worry, you can have someone else pick it up for you or we will donate it to Pelham Cares so a family will enjoy our fresh organic produce.
